Jory Woodis (Saxophone)

Jory completed a degree in Saxophone Performance at Brigham Young University. He started playing professionally when he was 15, playing lead tenor with the “Craig Olson Orchestra”. While at BYU, he was invited to perform as a featured soloist with nearly every major ensemble. Jory has performed as principle/lead in 6 countries with BYU’s award winning Synthesis and Wind Symphony, and was the clarinetist in the BYU Jazz Legacy Band for many years. Jory received many awards including the “2011 Outstanding College Saxophone Soloist” at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, and the “Outstanding Clarinet Soloist” at the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival for two consecutive years.

Jory plays professionally in several groups as a leader and a sideman. He performs regularly with the Utah Wind Symphony (Utah’s premier professional Wind Symphony), the Groove Merchants (a top-40′s dance band), the Utah Swing Orchestra, and many professional jazz combos around Utah. He has performed on television with Alex Boye, Carmen Rasmussen, and Merrill Osmond. As a recording artist, he records regularly on the saxophones and clarinet. He has recorded for pit orchestras, national commercials, various local rock bands, and as a guest on numerous CD’s. He also works as a Cannonball Performing artist and clinician.

As an educator, Jory maintains a large private saxophone studio in Orem, Utah and teaches private saxophone lessons for BYU and UVU.
