Mountain West first-call live and studio saxophonist, Vacaville, California native David Halliday studied privately with Grammy-winning jazz sax legend Joe Henderson in San Francisco as a teen. He performed as leader and sideman in his late teens in Sacramento, the Napa Valley, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Halliday attended Loyola University New Orleans, where he played with Stanton Moore in the legendary funk band, Galactic. His musical travels have taken him through 46 of the 50 United States, 8 European countries, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Halliday has opened for Mary J. Blige, Diana Krall, B.B. King, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and many others. He has performed on stage with Josh Groban, Maxwell, Dizzy Gillespie, The Temptations, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Ben Folds, the Four Tops, and Wynton Marsalis, and has been a featured soloist with the Utah Symphony. Halliday has appeared on BET, the WB’s Everwood, KBYUTV, Fox 13, KUTV Channel 2, and Josh Groban’s Awake Live DVD and has been heard on Touched By An Angel, ABC’s NBA theme, and numerous television commercials including an international Corona spot. His original compositions have aired on CBS, ESPN, HBO, Showtime, NFL Network, Speed TV and many more television networks in nineteen countries worldwide.
Halliday serves as Associate Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at the University of Utah, private saxophone instructor, Survey of Jazz professor, and director of the Westminster College Jazz Ensemble, and teaches private saxophone at Snow College. He leads several groups, most notably The Number Ones and the Jazz Vespers Quartet and hosts the Gracie’s Monday Night Jazz Jam in downtown Salt Lake every Monday night.
