Dave Faires is the Band Director at Willowcreek Middle School in Lehi, UT. He studied Music Education and Trumpet Performance at Ricks College, Brigham Young University and The American Band College, and is currently finishing a Masters Degree in Instrumental Conducting at BYU. He is a freelance trumpeter in all styles and performs regularly with The Utah Wind Symphony, Groove Merchants Band and Utah Swing Orchestra. He studied with legendary jazz trumpeter and educator Mike Vax, as well as David Brown and and Jay Rizzetto.
Dave has performed at The Midwest Clinic, 2002 Winter Olympics and recorded and toured with BYU’s Synthesis and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In 2002 he performed as the 1st Trumpeter on the recording of The U.S National Anthem (and other countries) for the Gold Medal Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. He has performed with several jazz masters including Randy Brecker, Wayne Bergeron, Allen Vizzutti and Terrell Stafford.
Dave has taught at all levels from elementary to college. Recently, he presented to music educators and local and state curriculum and technology leaders on best practices in regards to technology in the music classroom. Dave also maintains a private jazz and classical trumpet studio and is a clinician and adjudicator. He enjoys teaching jazz improvisation and preparing students for honor bands, solo festivals, and scholarship auditions. His students are recognized frequently with scholarships, superior ratings, all state jazz and concert band placements, and more. Many of his students perform in advanced extra-curricular ensembles including the bands at Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse.
