Soundhouse Prodigy’s Music Gains National Attention

Recording artist, songwriter, and producer, Porter Chapman, made a big splash this week as his new single, “Honest” was featured in Apple Music’s Alternative playlist, following in the footsteps of other bands with Utah ties including The Aces, Imagine Dragons, and Neon Trees. The single is the third from Chapman’s debut album on Wonderwild Records under his artist name, Bad Heather. If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he is the son of Soundhouse founder, Caleb Chapman. But at age 21, the younger Chapman is carving his own path and making a name for his own impressive talents.

Chapman has won national attention for his abilities as a drummer, and is already recognized as one of the top studio drummers in the region. However, on his forthcoming album, Chapman does the impossible for a musician his age - in addition to writing all the songs, he also performs all instruments and vocals. And all are done at a fantastic level. Regarding the latest single, Steve Smith, legendary drummer of Journey and one of Chapman’s mentors over the years, said that Chapman had penned a “great song with a super hook and serious guitar playing!”

Chapman is no stranger to the national scene as he was asked to play drums for the 2019 national tour of The Moth & The Flame, filling in for Andrew Tolman (Soundhouse grad and founding member of Imagine Dragons). He credits his many years of training in Soundhouse bands and touring for preparing him for his current career. He has been touring and performing from an early age including a performance at Carnegie Hall at 13 and sharing the stage with members of The Killers, Neon Trees, the Dave Matthews Band, Tower of Power, and many others. Beyond performing and producing his own music, Chapman is a current Soundhouse staff member and is the producer for musicians in our prestigious Soundhouse Artist Development program.

The first three singles from Bad Heather are available now, streaming on all major platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. You can also listen to the new single on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cODLDsxrHs.
